A training session for primary healthcare practitioners was successfully held between the 25-26th of June 2019 at Ardino, Bulgaria.
More than 25 professionals of the Kardzhali Region followed the training which covered aspects aimed at understanding the context of primary healthcare and the barriers that disabled people face in health care provision.
In particular, the following subjects were covered:
- Introduction to Primary Health Care
- Definition of Disability and the Epidemiological Data
- Access to Primary Health Care for people with disabilities
- Preconceptions and Stereotypes related to disability
- Access of people with a physical impairment to Primary Health Care
- Access of people with vision impairment to Primary Health Care
- Access of people with hearing impairment to Primary Health Care
The above issues were covered by representatives from PB 2, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In particular, the lecturers included Prof. Alexis Benos, and Assist. Prof. Emmanouil Smyrnakis of the School of Medicine that specialize in Primary Healthcare, Dr Panagiotis Tsalis, civil engineer specialized in accessibility, Georgia Fyka, a social worker with specialization in Disability Studies and Health Services’ Management and Pashalina Kalle, a mobility instructor for persons with visual impairments.
